Details

Tree-lined boulevards, spacious villas, and expensive real estate in the Heights of Algiers. The U.S. Embassy is here along with missions from Belgium, Italy, Russia, Spain, Japan, and Mexico. Security presence is heavy - private guards, police patrols, surveillance cameras everywhere. Quiet and residential. Locals walk dogs and families stroll in evenings. Some people speak English because of the embassies. Restaurants and cafes cater to diplomats and wealthy internationals. Eating alone is fine - embassy staff do it all the time. Less street harassment than other parts of Algiers. Not much to do though - it's residential with limited shops or attractions. You'll need taxis to reach the Casbah, museums, or shopping areas. A safe, quiet base for sleeping between exploring.
