Villa Catedral is a ski village in winter and a hiking base in summer. It is busy and sociable in season, but isolated off-season and exposed to mountain weather.
Villa Catedral is the base village of Cerro Catedral, one of the largest ski areas in South America, about 20 kilometers southwest of the center. In winter it is busy with skiers and snowboarders, and rental shops, cafes, restaurants and après-ski bars are clustered around the lifts. In summer it turns into a hiking and mountain-biking base, with chairlifts to ridge trails and the route toward Refugio Frey. It is busy in season and quiet outside it, when many services close or cut back. Visitors usually stay in the center and take the bus up, though lodges and apartments are available at the base. Mountain safety matters most here: check snow, wind and trail conditions, and avoid remote routes alone.

Avenida Bustillo is a quiet lakeside road with lodges, breweries and viewpoints. It works best as a daytime visit, and for an overnight stay you need to plan evening transport.
Centro is the most practical base in Bariloche, with everything within walking distance and lit streets in the evening. Expect tourist prices and watch for petty theft in crowded spots.
