Brisbane, Australia
Bohemian multicultural hub with Saturday markets, alternative culture, and diverse dining scene.
West End has this cool bohemian vibe with lots of multicultural food and artsy types. It's generally safe and the community is pretty welcoming to solo travelers. The Saturday market at Davies Park is great - lots of locals, good food, and the kind of atmosphere where a solo woman blends right in. Boundary Street is where most of the action is, with cafes and restaurants that are totally fine with solo diners. You'll see people from all backgrounds eating alone, which makes it feel normal. The area still has that alternative, progressive feel where people look out for each other. There's decent street art to check out and some good independent bookshops. Live music venues can get a bit lively but nothing too sketchy. It's been gentrified enough to have better lighting and security, but it hasn't lost that laid-back, accepting character.
