Sydney, Australia
Darlinghurst is the LGBTQ+ and nightlife hub with lots of bars and restaurants. Can be loud and hectic, especially on weekends, but has a welcoming vibe. Good location if you want to be close to the action.
Darlinghurst is Sydney's LGBTQ+ heart, and Oxford Street has that inclusive energy where everyone's welcome and solo travelers fit right in. The police know this area well - you'll see mounted officers on weekend nights because the club scene can get pretty intense. Taylor Square turns into party central between 11pm and 3am when people are bar-hopping, so expect crowds, noise, and drunk people everywhere during peak hours. The good news is venue staff here are pros at dealing with solo visitors and looking out for people who need help. During the day it's completely different - great cafes, interesting shops, and a much calmer vibe. The main Oxford Street strip stays busy and well-lit, but those side streets get pretty quiet after midnight. If you're not into the party scene, this area is much better during the day when you can enjoy the culture without the chaos.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Surry Hills has some of Sydney's better restaurants and coffee shops, plus galleries and creative spaces. Crime stats are a bit higher than other areas but it feels reasonably safe during the day. Expensive but good for food and culture.
Glebe has good markets on weekends and diverse food options thanks to the university crowd. Feels like a real neighborhood rather than a tourist area. Crime stats are moderate so stay aware of your surroundings.
Potts Point has nice cafes, restaurants, and tree-lined streets with good access to the city. The area itself is decent, but its proximity to Kings Cross means being extra aware of your surroundings.
