Sydney, Australia
Glebe has good markets on weekends and diverse food options thanks to the university crowd. Feels like a real neighborhood rather than a tourist area. Crime stats are moderate so stay aware of your surroundings.
Glebe has that university town vibe where students mix with young families and longtime residents, creating a laid-back multicultural atmosphere along Glebe Point Road. The food scene is fantastic - everything from cheap Vietnamese to expensive modern Australian, and solo dining is completely normal with this crowd. Saturday markets are great for people-watching and the community feel is strong. The university presence keeps things lively but also means weekend nights can get pretty rowdy with drunk students, especially near the residential colleges. The waterfront park is nice for daytime walks with decent lighting, but it gets pretty quiet after dark. Bus connections back to the city are frequent and reliable. The residential streets are generally safe but can be very quiet at night - stick to the main road if you're walking around after dinner. Crime is mostly petty stuff - drunk student antics and the occasional bag theft - rather than anything seriously dangerous.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Surry Hills has some of Sydney's better restaurants and coffee shops, plus galleries and creative spaces. Crime stats are a bit higher than other areas but it feels reasonably safe during the day. Expensive but good for food and culture.
Darlinghurst is the LGBTQ+ and nightlife hub with lots of bars and restaurants. Can be loud and hectic, especially on weekends, but has a welcoming vibe. Good location if you want to be close to the action.
Potts Point has nice cafes, restaurants, and tree-lined streets with good access to the city. The area itself is decent, but its proximity to Kings Cross means being extra aware of your surroundings.
