Sydney, Australia
Potts Point has nice cafes, restaurants, and tree-lined streets with good access to the city. The area itself is decent, but its proximity to Kings Cross means being extra aware of your surroundings.
Potts Point is what Kings Cross wishes it could be - stylish, European-feeling, with tree-lined streets and sidewalk cafes that actually feel sophisticated. Macleay Street has good foot traffic during the day from locals shopping and tourists cafe-hopping. The Art Deco buildings are gorgeous and the whole area has that cosmopolitan vibe Sydney does well. The problem is geography - you're literally one block from Kings Cross, and that transition can be jarring. William Street is basically the dividing line between 'charming' and 'sketchy.' The tree-lined residential streets are beautiful during the day but can feel pretty dark between streetlights at night. Elizabeth Bay Marina is nice for harbor walks but empties out after 7pm. Restaurant and cafe staff are generally locals who know the area well and can give you good advice about getting around safely. Stick to Macleay Street and the main areas - those quiet side streets are probably not where you want to wander alone after dark.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Surry Hills has some of Sydney's better restaurants and coffee shops, plus galleries and creative spaces. Crime stats are a bit higher than other areas but it feels reasonably safe during the day. Expensive but good for food and culture.
Darlinghurst is the LGBTQ+ and nightlife hub with lots of bars and restaurants. Can be loud and hectic, especially on weekends, but has a welcoming vibe. Good location if you want to be close to the action.
Glebe has good markets on weekends and diverse food options thanks to the university crowd. Feels like a real neighborhood rather than a tourist area. Crime stats are moderate so stay aware of your surroundings.
