The Altstadt is the easiest and most walkable area to stay in, with a steady flow of people, good lighting and plenty of places to eat alone. The trade-offs are higher prices and some pickpocketing in crowds.
The Altstadt is the historic core of Innsbruck, a compact pedestrian zone of medieval arcades, pastel houses and the Golden Roof, with mountains visible at the end of almost every street. It is busy from morning until late evening with visitors, shoppers and locals, which keeps it comfortable for a woman on her own. Cafes and coffeehouses are used to solo guests reading or working for hours, and restaurants rarely make a fuss about a table for one. Street lighting is good and the streets are rarely empty before about 11pm. After that the lanes get quiet, but the area stays calm. The main thing to watch for is pickpocketing in the narrowest, most crowded lanes and at Christmas markets, so keep your bag closed and in front of you. Accommodation is the most expensive in the city, but nearly everything, including the Nordkette cable car, is within walking distance.

ExcellentAreas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Wilten is a local district with a good cafe and bar street and easy tram links. It is good value and still feels safe at night, apart from the area toward the train station, which is more mixed.
Saggen is a calm residential area close to the Old Town. It suits quiet nights; dinner and drinks are mostly elsewhere.
Pradl is a quiet, budget-friendly residential district with good transport links. There is little going on in the evenings, but it works as a base if you do not mind the commute to the center.
