A local neighborhood with independent bars and the best river views in the city. It is safe and friendly, but the quiet side streets and the river path are best avoided alone late at night.
Across the Inn River from the Old Town, Mariahilf and St. Nikolaus face the water with a row of colorful houses that is the most photographed view in Innsbruck. Behind it, the streets are relaxed and slightly alternative, with small bakeries, independent bars, cafes and artists' studios, and a crowd of students and creatives. It feels more local and less polished than the Old Town. Evenings are lively on Mariahilfstraße and Innstraße, where bars stay open late. Most places are fine for a woman alone, but the riverside path and quiet side streets are dark and empty late at night, so stick to the main roads. The Old Town is a five-minute walk over the bridge.

Pradl is a quiet, budget-friendly residential district with good transport links. There is little going on in the evenings, but it works as a base if you do not mind the commute to the center.
Wilten is a local district with a good cafe and bar street and easy tram links. It is good value and still feels safe at night, apart from the area toward the train station, which is more mixed.
Saggen is a calm residential area close to the Old Town. It suits quiet nights; dinner and drinks are mostly elsewhere.
