Wilten is a local district with a good cafe and bar street and easy tram links. It is good value and still feels safe at night, apart from the area toward the train station, which is more mixed.
Just south of the center, Wilten is a residential district with Baroque churches, the Wiltener Platzl square and the Bergisel ski jump on the hill above. Leopoldstraße has most of the cafes, bars and casual restaurants, and the crowd is a mix of students, young professionals and families. It is quieter and more local than the Old Town but still well lit and busy in the evening. Eating alone is easy, since many places have counter seating or small tables. Side streets are mostly residential and calm after dark. The stretch near the viaduct arches toward the train station is more mixed late at night. Wilten suits a cheaper stay with a local feel, and trams get you to the center in a few minutes.

Pradl is a quiet, budget-friendly residential district with good transport links. There is little going on in the evenings, but it works as a base if you do not mind the commute to the center.
A local neighborhood with independent bars and the best river views in the city. It is safe and friendly, but the quiet side streets and the river path are best avoided alone late at night.
Saggen is a calm residential area close to the Old Town. It suits quiet nights; dinner and drinks are mostly elsewhere.
