Belize City, Belize
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Belize City.
The safest neighborhood in Belize City with the Tourism Village, upscale hotels, and main attractions. If you have to stay overnight in the city, this is where to do it. Most people skip it entirely and head straight to the islands or interior.
Fort George is the safest part of Belize City, though that's a low bar. It's an upscale area at the eastern tip with the Tourism Village (where cruise ships dock), the Radisson Fort George Hotel, and most of the decent accommodations. The Baron Bliss Lighthouse anchors the area, and the Museum of Belize occupies an old colonial prison building. During the day it's busy with cruise passengers and hotel guests, which means more tourist police around. The Tourism Village has about 30 gift shops, restaurants, and bars set up for cruise crowds - expect to pay way more than you would elsewhere in Belize. The waterfront Marine Promenade is one of the few places where walking actually feels okay. Restaurant and hotel staff speak English and are used to dealing with international visitors. After dark the whole area empties out fast. Stick to well-lit main streets or just take a taxi. Everything costs more here than in other parts of the city, but you're paying for better security and actual tourist infrastructure.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Upscale waterfront area with the BELIZE sign and one good restaurant. Quieter and safer than downtown but isolated - you'll need taxis to get anywhere. Fort George is more practical, or just skip the city.
Residential area with hospitals and schools. Safer than southside but not set up for tourists - limited English, no tourist services. Stay in Fort George instead or skip the city entirely.
Commercial center around the Swing Bridge and Albert Street. Worth a quick daytime look to see local life and the manual bridge, but pickpocketing is bad and it's dangerous after dark. Don't spend more time here than you need to.
