Belize City, Belize
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Belize City.
Residential area with hospitals and schools. Safer than southside but not set up for tourists - limited English, no tourist services. Stay in Fort George instead or skip the city entirely.
King's Park is a residential area on the northside with St. John's College, Belize Medical Associates, and Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. It's a local neighborhood - families, government workers, students. You'll find shopping centers, medical facilities, schools, and banks, but nothing particularly interesting for tourists. A few local restaurants like Ceviche Express and The Little Boar House serve decent Belizean food at reasonable prices, though English isn't as common here and you'll definitely stand out as a foreigner dining alone. Daytime feels safer than the southside because of the schools and hospitals bringing regular foot traffic, but it's quiet and residential after dark. Unless you need to be near the hospitals or schools, there's no real reason to stay here. You'll be taking taxis to get to Fort George or the Tourism Village anyway. It's a window into regular Belizean life, which means lower prices but also no tourist services.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
The safest neighborhood in Belize City with the Tourism Village, upscale hotels, and main attractions. If you have to stay overnight in the city, this is where to do it. Most people skip it entirely and head straight to the islands or interior.
Upscale waterfront area with the BELIZE sign and one good restaurant. Quieter and safer than downtown but isolated - you'll need taxis to get anywhere. Fort George is more practical, or just skip the city.
Commercial center around the Swing Bridge and Albert Street. Worth a quick daytime look to see local life and the manual bridge, but pickpocketing is bad and it's dangerous after dark. Don't spend more time here than you need to.
