Sucre, Bolivia
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Sucre.
Hillside area with views and a monastery. Good for daytime - artisan shops, cafes, quiet atmosphere. Empties out at night so it's more of a morning/afternoon destination.
Fifteen minutes uphill from the main plaza - the altitude makes the walk harder than it looks. Views of white rooftops across the valley make it worth it. Plaza Recoleta has cafes with outdoor seating where you can catch your breath. The 17th-century monastery dominates the small plaza, with artisan shops around it selling textiles and handicrafts for less than downtown. Peaceful and residential compared to the tourist center. Cafes like Café Gourmet Mirador and Time & Coffee get tourists and locals who come for views and quiet. Safe during the day but empties out in the evening when businesses close. Walking down is easier than up, or taxis cost 5-6 BOB. Vendors are less pushy than downtown. The shops have decent quality but almost no one speaks English.
