Don't Make These 5 Mistakes in Sucre

What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Sucre.

Summary

Student area with cheap food and authentic local vibe. Almost no English but good for language learners and meeting young locals. Safe during the day, quiet at night.

Details

Students everywhere working in cafes, studying in groups. The younger energy is different from the tourist-focused historic center. Restaurants are cheaper here - big portions of traditional Bolivian food at student prices. Almost no English menus but staff will help you figure it out. You'll hear Spanish everywhere and might be the only foreigner in some places. Good for language practice if you're taking classes here, which a lot of travelers do. Safe when students are around during the day, quieter at night when everyone goes home or to bars near the plaza. The university has nice colonial architecture and courtyards. About 10 minutes from Plaza 25 de Mayo - close but outside the main tourist zone. Locals are curious about foreigners, especially language students.
