Kapana means 'The Trap' - it's a maze of 23 narrow streets that actually does feel like one. The area was abandoned craftsmen workshops until they renovated it for the 2019 European Capital of Culture project. Now it's full of street art, galleries, coffee roasters, and restaurants doing modern Bulgarian food. During the day you'll see digital nomads working from cafes, people meeting for lunch, and browsing through craft shops and art studios. It's normal to sit alone in cafes here - you'll see others reading or on laptops at outdoor tables. The lighting is decent and the streets stay busy until around midnight on weekends as people move between bars and restaurants. The crowd skews younger and more international than the rest of Bulgaria, so English is more common in the cafes and bars.
