Details

Trakiya is Plovdiv's largest neighborhood with over 60,000 people - a modern residential area in the southeast where regular Bulgarian families live. You'll see parents with kids, elderly people shopping at markets, people commuting to work. It has modern apartment blocks, supermarkets, sports facilities, and parks including the Botanic Garden and Lauta Park. Crime is low and it feels safe to walk around. The downside is hardly anyone speaks English past basic greetings, and there aren't international restaurants or trendy cafes like in Kapana or the center. It works if you want cheap accommodation in a safe, normal neighborhood and don't mind commuting by bus or taxi for entertainment. The sports complex and parks get used for runs and evening walks. People look out for their neighbors here.
