Summary

The business district with upscale hotels and international amenities. Safe and convenient with good English, but generic and expensive. Lacks local character.

Details

Sivatha Boulevard is the main commercial street with colonial architecture, high-end hotels (Prince d'Angkor, Shinta Mani), upmarket restaurants, and chain stores. The area feels more like a modern Asian business district than a temple town. Hotels cater to business travelers and tourists, so English is standard and service is professional. Street lighting is good and you'll see hotel security and police around. It's safe and convenient but generic - you could be in any mid-range Asian city. The problematic Sivatha-Pub Street intersection is here, where aggressive scam crews operate and have gotten worse lately. About 10 minutes walk to Old Market. You pay more for everything in this area for the safety and convenience. Good for people who want familiar, predictable accommodations, not for experiencing local culture.
