Summary

Vitacura is the safest and most expensive neighborhood. Luxury shopping, upscale restaurants, heavy security. Very expensive and far from attractions, but extremely safe if that's your priority.

Details

Vitacura is even wealthier than Las Condes. Tree-lined streets with big houses, designer shopping on Alonso de Córdova, expensive restaurants. Borde Rio has nine restaurants by the river. Security everywhere - private guards, well-lit streets, police presence. Safe to walk day or night. Restaurant and shop staff are used to international visitors, English is common. Quiet, refined atmosphere. Well-maintained parks and modern buildings. Downsides: expensive even compared to Las Condes, far from downtown so you'll need taxis or metro to see historical sites. Not much nightlife or culture - mostly residential with high-end services. It's a safe, comfortable base but you'll travel to other areas for activities besides dining and shopping.
