Split, Croatia
Someone grabs your arm. A taxi goes off-route. A guy won't leave you alone. This free guide covers what to say and do.
Budget neighborhood near the Old Town with local atmosphere, safe residential streets, affordable dining in a medieval setting. Good for people wanting Croatian daily life with a central location.
Radunica is a medieval neighborhood just east of the Old Town - one of Split's oldest areas outside the palace walls. This historic district covers about a dozen streets in the Lučac area, centered on the main street called Radunica. Good value for budget travelers who want to be close to the center without tourist prices. Centuries-old houses line narrow streets. Similar charm to Veli Varoš but less polished, which some people prefer. You're minutes from the Old Town but living where locals actually shop and eat. The area stays quiet most of the time - local families and working residents going about their routines. In June it transforms for the Days of Radunica folk festival with music, food, and cultural events. It's a residential area where neighbors know each other and watch the streets. English is less common than tourist zones, so basic Croatian helps, though locals are patient. Dining leans toward local spots with big portions at low prices compared to the Riva. No nightlife here - you go to the Old Town or Bačvice for that. About 10 minutes walk to Diocletian's Palace.

Quiet residential beach neighborhood with local families - a calmer option than Bačvice while staying central and safe. Good for people wanting a local beach with neighborhood life.
Split's largest modern beach with facilities for families and beach time, but far from the Old Town. Better for longer stays focused on beach and quiet residential setting than nightlife and central sightseeing.
