Prague, Czechia
Good transport connections, mix of local and tourist spots. Safe during the day, avoid Wenceslas Square at night.
Wraps around Old Town with Wenceslas Square at its center. 'New' is relative - founded 1348. Mix of offices, shopping streets, residential blocks, architecture from Gothic to modern. Wenceslas Square is more a wide boulevard than a square, lined with shops, hotels, restaurants for locals and tourists. Busy during the day with workers and shoppers. After dark it attracts drunk groups and the vibe deteriorates. Side streets have better cafes and restaurants at normal prices. Traditional Czech restaurants and bistros handle solo diners fine. Three metro lines intersect here, easy to reach other parts of Prague. Generally safe during business hours, but skip Wenceslas Square late at night - stick to better-lit side streets. Less charming than Old Town, more authentic than pure tourist areas.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Authentic pub culture and cheap prices in a working-class area that's rough around the edges. Fine during the day for the alternative scene, be cautious at night.
Steps from main attractions with good safety and constant activity. Premium prices and crowds, but convenient for first-timers.
Baroque architecture and good safety from embassy presence. Trade-offs are steep hills and high prices. Quieter than Old Town while staying central.
