Don't Make These 5 Mistakes in Guayaquil

What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Guayaquil.

Summary

The main tourist boardwalk with heavy security, museums, and waterfront restaurants. Safe and busy during the day, dead after dark. Decent starting point for the tourist circuit.

Details

A 2.5km boardwalk along the river - the main tourist draw. Packed during the day with families, vendors, people visiting museums and gardens. Tons of military and police around, security at both entrances. Feels genuinely secure. IMAX theater, shops, riverside restaurants. Safe but kind of generic and commercial. Solo dining works fine with plenty of outdoor cafes facing the water. Like everywhere else here, timing matters. Stays busy until 8-9pm when families leave. Empties fast after that. Even with all the security, take an Uber rather than walking around late. Vendors pack up early, the whole lively atmosphere dies once it's dark. Costs more than local neighborhoods but less inflated than Las Peñas. Connects to Puerto Santa Ana and Las Peñas, so it's a decent starting point for the tourist circuit. Just treat it as a daytime family spot, not somewhere to be at night.
