Luxor, Egypt
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Luxor.
Best spot for evening walks and dining with Nile views. Well-lit and safe with regular police patrols. Vendor attention is relentless, but it's still the safest choice for evening activities.
The Corniche is the waterfront walk along the East Bank of the Nile, lined with palm trees, hotels, restaurants, and cafes facing the river. Locals and tourists come here for evening walks, watching feluccas sail past at sunset. Well-maintained, well-lit, and Tourist Police patrol regularly. Egyptian families walk here in evenings, people sit at riverside cafes. Restaurants range from cheap local places to upscale hotel dining, most with outdoor seating facing the river. Solo dining is normal - people sit for hours with books or laptops over juice or tea. The problem is vendors, felucca captains, and horse-carriage drivers constantly trying to sell you rides or tours. Very persistent, especially if you're alone. Firm 'la shukran' (no thank you) without eye contact works best. The Corniche runs from Luxor Temple south to residential areas north, so it works as both a destination and a walking route between sites.
