Details

Zona Rosa is where you'll spend most of your time - it's the main tourist and nightlife area centered around Boulevard del Hipódromo near Plaza Italia. This is the safest part of San Salvador with constant police, private security outside every restaurant and bar, and well-lit streets that stay busy late. You'll see young professionals after work, expat families, and tourists from nearby hotels. The vibe is upscale - craft breweries next to fine dining, boutique shops next to chains. Restaurant and bar staff speak enough English to help with menus. Eating alone is normal here, plenty of cafes have people working on laptops. The area around Multiplaza mall and the main boulevards feels safe at night, though you should still use Uber instead of walking far. Everything costs more than local areas, but that's the trade-off for security. This is where international hotels are, where embassies are nearby, and where Salvadorans go when they want to feel safe at night.
