Nadi, Fiji
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Nadi.
Denarau Island has the luxury resorts with high security and English-speaking staff. Prices match international resorts. Safe and comfortable, but completely disconnected from local culture.
Denarau Island is where Fiji's luxury resorts are - Hilton, Sheraton, Radisson, Westin, Sofitel, Wyndham. It's 5km northwest of town via a causeway, and it's a 2.55 km² private island that feels nothing like the rest of Nadi. Everything is polished and expensive, aimed at tourists who want a stress-free resort experience. Private security patrols constantly, staff speak English, and you'll pay international luxury resort prices. You can walk around at any hour - lighting is good and there's always security and other tourists around. Port Denarau Marina is the social hub, open 9am-11pm with restaurants, shops, bars, and nightly entertainment like traditional dancing and fire shows. Restaurants range from Hard Rock Café to Indian fusion places. It's easy to eat alone here while watching the boats. The main downside is that it's completely artificial - you're in a resort bubble with no connection to actual Fijian life. If you want maximum safety and comfort and don't mind paying for it, this is the area to stay.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Martintar has most of Nadi's bars and clubs in one area. Relatively safe with crowds and security, but always taxi to and from - don't walk.
Wailoaloa Beach has cheap hostels with female-only dorms and a social backpacker scene. The beach is polluted and not safe for swimming. Treat it as a budget base for day trips, not a beach destination.
Downtown Nadi has the main market and cheap local food, but watch out for pushy vendors and pickpockets. The area isn't safe to walk around at night. Go during the day and keep your stuff secure.
