Helsinki, Finland
10 uncomfortable travel moments most of us run into at some point. Our guide shows you exactly how to respond to each one, so you never blank when it matters. Used by women from 50+ countries.
The alternative culture hub with nightlife, cheap food, and a gritty local feel. Less polished than central Helsinki but more authentic.
Kallio used to be working-class housing, now it's where artists, students, and younger people live. You'll find dive bars with cheap beer, vintage shops in old factory spaces, and a generally gritty feel. During the day there are specialty coffee shops where people work on laptops, second-hand bookstores, Vietnamese street food spots. It's unpretentious and doesn't feel touristy. The church with the green copper tower is the landmark you'll see everywhere. Kaikukatu street has three venues - Kaiku, Siltanen, and Kuudes Linja - that locals call the Bermuda triangle because once you go in, good luck getting out. Streets stay busy until 2-3am on weekends with people moving between bars. Police patrol regularly. Eating alone is normal - you'll see locals doing it. English is common because there's an expat community here. Generally safe to walk around even late, though stick to main streets after midnight instead of empty residential blocks.
