Töölö is a quiet residential area with tree-lined streets, Art Nouveau and Functionalist apartment buildings, the Parliament House, and National Museum. Middle-class Finnish families live here - you get good schools, safe parks, and the kind of quiet that's unusual for a capital. No tourist attractions or nightlife, but you'll see how Finns actually live. Cafes welcome people who sit for hours with books and laptops. Layers bakery has good croissants, Levain does sourdough and all-day menus, Tin Tin Tango has bohemian breakfast, Carelia is French-inspired fine dining in an old pharmacy building. Everything closes early - by 10pm the streets are quiet except for occasional dog walkers. Street lighting is good and it feels safe, though it's so quiet you might not see anyone. English is less common than in tourist areas since it's actually residential, but younger service people usually speak some. More of a peaceful base for seeing local life than a tourist destination.
