Chartrons is a residential neighbourhood with calm, well-lit streets and an easy pace. It is a bit quieter late at night than the old town.
Chartrons was the wine merchants' quarter and sits north of the centre. It feels calmer and more residential than the old town, with antique shops along Rue Notre-Dame, independent boutiques, small cafes and a large Sunday market by the river. Streets are well lit, the riverbank path has joggers and cyclists in the evening, and the Jardin Public is close by. Small restaurants and wine bars are used to people eating alone. The old town is a short tram ride or 15-minute walk away. It is quieter late at night than Saint-Pierre, so stay on the busier streets and quays after dark, and take a taxi if you are far from a tram stop.

The Triangle d'Or is the most upscale district, with boutiques, theatre and brasseries. It suits a central base with easy evenings out, at higher prices.
Saint-Pierre is the historic centre and the simplest place to base yourself. Everything is walkable and evenings are social, with pickpocketing in busy squares as the main risk.
Bastide is a quiet riverside district across the Garonne with parks, views and a relaxed cafe scene. It is quiet at night, so plan the trip back.
