The Triangle d'Or is the most upscale district, with boutiques, theatre and brasseries. It suits a central base with easy evenings out, at higher prices.
The Triangle d'Or lies between Place des Quinconces, Cours Clemenceau and the Grand Théâtre, and is the upscale shopping and dining district. It has wide boulevards, designer boutiques, the opera house and the covered Marché des Grands Hommes. Streets are well lit and well kept, with locals and visitors out until late, and eating alone at brasseries and wine bars is normal. Many women travelling alone find it the most comfortable area at night. Place des Quinconces is huge and open, so quieter corners can feel empty late, and the cours nearby are quiet once the bars close. Prices are higher than elsewhere in the city, but it works well as a hotel base if you want somewhere central.
