Nice, France
Someone grabs your arm. A taxi goes off-route. A guy won't leave you alone. This free guide covers what to say and do.
The waterfront promenade with old hotels, beach clubs, and upscale shops behind it. Safe and well-lit but touristy and expensive. Main concern is beach theft.
The Promenade is a 4-mile waterfront with palm trees, old hotels, and the blue chairs facing the sea. Behind it, the Carré d'Or area has expensive shops and apartments. You'll see people jogging in the morning, families walking in the afternoon, tourists at all hours. Beach clubs, hotel bars, and restaurants stay open late. Good street lighting and regular police patrols, though you'll notice prostitutes working the western end after dark. The beaches are pebbles, not sand - some sections have paid beach clubs with loungers, other parts are free public beach. Hotels and beach clubs get solo diners regularly, so eating alone is normal. Everything costs tourist prices here. Most people speak English since the area caters to international visitors. The main issue is theft on the beach - people grab bags and phones while you're swimming, so don't leave valuables on your towel.
