Athens' central hub with the main metro connections. Very convenient location, busy day and night, generally safe with police presence. Pickpocketing is an issue in crowded metro areas.
Syntagma Square has the Parliament building and the changing of guards ceremony at 11 AM daily. This is the main transportation hub where metro lines M2 and M3 meet, plus buses and trams. Very convenient but crowded during rush hours. The square stays busy even at night. Ermou Street runs from here to Monastiraki - a pedestrian shopping street with international brands. People base themselves near Syntagma because it's central and well-connected. Some good cocktail bars nearby like The Clumsies and Baba Au Rum. Restaurants right on the square are tourist-priced, walk a couple blocks away for better deals. Everyone speaks English. Watch your belongings on crowded metro platforms.

The historic tourist district at the base of the Acropolis with pedestrian streets and regular police presence. Very touristy but actually old and worth seeing. Good for first-time visitors who want easy navigation and safety.
A residential neighborhood near the Acropolis Museum with local cafes, lower prices than tourist areas, and safe streets. Good option if you want to stay somewhere that feels more like Athens and less like a tourism zone.
The market district with actual local energy, rooftop bars with Acropolis views, and good food. Safe overall but pickpocketing is a real issue at the metro station during crowded times.
