Guatemala City, Guatemala
Residential area with shopping centers and cheaper hotels than Zone 10. Safe but quiet at night with no nightlife. You'll need Uber to get anywhere interesting.
Zone 14 is a residential area - quieter and more suburban than Zone 10. Tree-lined streets, shopping centers, mid-range restaurants. Families and upper-middle-class Guatemalans live here rather than tourists, so you see more normal life while keeping decent security. Oakland Mall area stays busy during the day, and hotels cost less than Zone 10 while still being safe. Police are around during the day, residential streets have private security. After 9pm it gets quiet as people go inside - no nightlife scene like Zona Viva. Fewer restaurant options than Zone 10, less English since tourists don't come here much. If you want to save money on hotels without ending up somewhere sketchy, Zone 14 works. You'll need Uber to reach nightlife and attractions though.

Zone 10 is Guatemala City's tourist bubble - safe but expensive and lacking local character. It's the only area where walking at night is reasonable, with constant security and English-speaking staff.
Private development designed to be safe and walkable - shops, restaurants, fake European architecture. Expensive and artificial but you can actually relax here, which is rare in Guatemala City.
Creative district with galleries, cafes, and street art. Good during the day, unsafe after dark. Strictly daytime only.
