Details

Laugardalur means 'hot spring valley' and it's Reykjavík's sports district with the national football stadium, ice rink, and the city's largest geothermal pool. Business hotels like the Hilton cater to conference people and sports teams. It's 2-3km from downtown - Strætó bus or 25-minute walk. Families come for Laugardalslaug pool (multiple hot tubs, steam rooms, waterslide) and the small zoo and botanical gardens. Suburban feel, very safe but not much character or dining compared to downtown. Quiet at night since it's mostly sports facilities and hotels. The appeal is the pool and cheaper hotels (relative to downtown). You save money staying here but spend time commuting for food and nightlife. Safe but isolated. Good if you're here for sports, conferences, or really into pool culture.
