Bangalore, India
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Bangalore.
The international IT suburb with 50+ pubs, 100+ cafes, and excellent global dining. Safe, cosmopolitan, and English-friendly with strong expat presence, but 16km from city center makes exploration difficult due to traffic. Best for those working in the area.
Whitefield is the IT corridor about 16 kilometers east of the city center. International tech companies have offices here, so many foreign employees live in the area. The neighborhood mixes Bangalore locals, young IT workers, and expats, creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Over 50 pubs and bars, more than 100 cafes, and restaurants serving everything from Italian to Mexican. Windmills Craftworks is legendary among expats and locals - a jazz theater and book cafe with excellent food. The dining scene mirrors the international population: local South Indian spots next to authentic Japanese, French cafes, and fusion experiments. English is very widely spoken. The area feels safe with good infrastructure, but it's spread out - you'll need ride-hailing to get around. The major problem is distance from central Bangalore. Getting to Indiranagar, MG Road, or other areas means dealing with notorious traffic - a 16km journey can take over an hour. Fine if you're working in Whitefield or want an expat bubble, but the location limits experiencing Bangalore more broadly.
