Kochi, India
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Kochi.
Mainland commercial center with local shops and authentic street food. Less tourist infrastructure than Fort Kochi. Safe during business hours, better for day visits than staying.
The mainland commercial center where locals actually live and work. MG Road has shops, banks, restaurants, office workers, and shoppers. This is urban India without tourist infrastructure - fewer English speakers, crowded streets, faster pace. Safe during business hours with foot traffic and police around. After shops close around 8-9 PM, streets empty out. Most travelers come here for Lulu Mall, the train station, or metro connections. Street food is authentic and cheap but menus are in Malayalam and you might be the only foreigner. Generally safe but requires more awareness than Fort Kochi - secure your valuables, don't walk alone late, expect stares. Better as a day visit than a place to stay.
