Kochi, India
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Kochi.
The main tourist area with colonial buildings and cafes. Safe and English-friendly with lots of other travelers around. Feels touristy and quiets down after dark.
This is where most tourists stay - colonial buildings from Portuguese, Dutch, and British times now filled with cafes, galleries, and guesthouses. Princess Street and Burger Street have the most tourist stuff concentrated together. The Chinese fishing nets at the northern tip still work the same way they did 600 years ago, good for sunset photos. Everything caters to international visitors, cafe staff speak English, you'll see other travelers everywhere. Safe to walk around until about 9-10 PM when it gets quiet. It feels more like a sleepy beach town than typical urban India, which can be easier to handle. Watch out for tourist scams though - rickshaw drivers overcharge, fake tour operators operate here. Use apps for transport.
