Details

The West End is Galway's arty quarter, centred on Dominick Street and Sea Road and the streets around them. Locals come here for food, coffee and live music, and the pace is slower than in the pedestrian centre. Cafes, galleries and small restaurants fill the daytime, and in the evening the music pubs and restaurants are busy but without the large, loud crowds of the Latin Quarter. Solo diners are common and staff are used to people on their own. The area is residential in parts, and some side streets are quiet and poorly lit late at night, so use the main route along Dominick Street or take a taxi if you are leaving late. It suits anyone who wants pubs and music without the rowdiest part of the city.
