Don't Make These 5 Mistakes in Venice

What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Venice.

Summary

Near the train station with the Jewish Ghetto, canal-side bars and restaurants, and more local atmosphere than San Marco. Cheaper prices. Strada Nova is the pickpocketing zone, but side streets are safe.

Details

Runs from the train station to the Rialto Bridge. Most visitors rush through but it's worth exploring. The Jewish Ghetto has history and kosher restaurants open to everyone. Fondamenta della Misericordia and Fondamenta dei Ormesini have wine bars and trattorias where locals and students gather at night. People eat alone at the smaller bacari here. Strada Nova (the main route to the train station) gets packed with tourists and pickpockets - watch your things on this street. The side streets parallel to Strada Nova are quieter and safer with good lighting and local foot traffic. English is common near the train station and in the Ghetto, less so in residential areas. Things stay active until midnight along the canals where bars and restaurants are.
