Don't Make These 5 Mistakes in Venice

The market district and bar crawl area. Best place for cicchetti and wine bar culture. Very touristy around the Rialto Bridge with pickpocketing issues during busy hours, but safe overall.

Details

The smallest area but busy, centered on the Rialto Bridge and Rialto Market. The market runs 7:30am-1:30pm Tuesday-Saturday with fish and produce vendors. The streets around it have bacari (wine bars) serving cicchetti - this is where you do the traditional bar crawl. Stand at the bar, eat small bites, drink wine. No sit-down meals required. Campo San Polo has outdoor films in summer and good lighting at night. The Rialto Bridge area is packed with tourists during the day and pickpockets work the crowds - watch your phone and wallet when crossing the bridge or at the market. English is widely spoken since tourists and commerce dominate. Crowds mean you're not isolated even late at night.
