Venice, Italy
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Venice.
The transport hub area with local residential pockets. Cheaper and quieter than tourist zones but you'll need to travel to other areas for sights and nightlife. Good for budget stays near buses and parking.
The most functional and least touristy area. Has Piazzale Roma (main bus terminal and parking), the cruise port, and the People Mover railway. Most visitors just pass through. Near Piazzale Roma feels like a transport hub - luggage everywhere, less of the romantic Venice atmosphere. Go deeper toward Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio and you'll find residential squares, local restaurants serving Venetians, lower prices. Safe day and night with good lighting around transport areas and police near Piazzale Roma. Small family trattorias where you'll be one of few tourists. English less common except at transport hubs - basic Italian helps. The trade-off is you're farther from attractions - 15-20 minute walk or vaporetto ride to San Marco or Rialto.
