Details

Umeda is the business and shopping district in north Osaka - skyscrapers, department stores, and underground shopping mazes connecting the train stations. Office workers during the day, people shopping or eating dinner after work in the evening. The area stays busy late. Plenty of security, cameras, and police near the stations. Well-lit streets. English speakers are easier to find here since the area gets business travelers and tourists. Nakazakicho, about 10 minutes walk away, has vintage shops and cafes if you want something quieter with more character. The main issue with Umeda is it feels corporate and sterile. Hotels cost more because it's the business district.
