Riga, Latvia
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Riga.
Nature-focused residential area with forest park and lake. Very safe but very quiet with almost no restaurants or cafes. Better as a day trip than a base unless you want to commute to the center for meals and activities.
Built around a large forest park, Lake Ķīšezers, and the city zoo. Wealthy Latvian families live here in spacious houses surrounded by trees - it feels more like countryside than city. Very safe with virtually no street crime. Good for morning runs around the lake or walks through pine forests. About 20 minutes by tram from Old Town. Very limited cafes and restaurants - maybe one or two near the lake where windsurfers hang out. English is less common since tourists don't really come here, though younger people and cafe staff usually manage. Works as a day trip if you want nature, but not practical as a base unless you're okay traveling to the center for most meals and any nightlife.
