Vilnius, Lithuania
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Vilnius.
The Old Town is the most convenient base - walkable, safe, lots of cafes and restaurants where eating alone is normal. Prices are higher than residential neighborhoods but still reasonable compared to Western European cities.
One of the larger surviving medieval centers in Europe - 887 acres of UNESCO-listed baroque, Gothic, and Renaissance buildings. You'll see tour groups during the day but also plenty of locals getting coffee and students heading to class. The university is actually in the Old Town, so it's not just a tourist zone. Cobblestone streets and hidden courtyards give it character. People eat alone in cafes all the time here - reading, working on laptops, nobody cares. Restaurant staff speak English since tourists come through regularly. Tourist Police patrol and can help if needed. Streets are well-lit and feel safe in the evening, though things quiet down after 10pm when most places close. More of a cultural vibe than a party scene - good if you want to wander around without dealing with drunk crowds.
