Vilnius, Lithuania
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Vilnius.
Modern business district mixed with old wooden house area. Safe and convenient for business travel with good hotels, but no charm or atmosphere compared to Old Town or Užupis.
Two completely different areas in one neighborhood. The southern part along Konstitucijos Avenue is modern business district - Lithuania's first skyscrapers, chain hotels (Holiday Inn, Radisson Blu), financial offices. Busy with business people during the week, well-lit and secure with security guards and police. Behind those towers is central Šnipiškės, locals call it 'Shanghai' - old wooden houses from the 1800s, gardens, some streets still unpaved. The contrast is weird. If you stay in the business hotels, English is everywhere and it's very safe, but sterile and corporate. Restaurants cater to business lunches and hotel guests, prices are higher. At night the business area empties out when workers leave, but hotel zones stay safe and lit. The wooden house area is interesting during the day but explore it in daylight. Young professionals are moving in for the mix of modern and old.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Modern business district along Gedimino Avenue with government buildings, shopping, and newer restaurants. Safe, well-connected, less touristy than Old Town.
The Old Town is the most convenient base - walkable, safe, lots of cafes and restaurants where eating alone is normal. Prices are higher than residential neighborhoods but still reasonable compared to Western European cities.
Užupis has the artistic community vibe with good cafes and a welcoming feel. Safe and more residential than the main Old Town, less touristy but still accessible. Pricier than other neighborhoods.
