Little India with cheap vegetarian food and budget accommodation near KL Sentral station. Safe during the day, dead at night. Good for culture and transport access, but go elsewhere for nightlife.

Sari shops line Jalan Tun Sambanthan, roti canai smell fills the air, and Tamil music plays from storefronts - this is KL's Little India. The 2010 improvements added wider sidewalks and decorative archways, making it more walkable than it used to be. Safe during the day when families shop and workers pass through KL Sentral station at the edge of the area. Locals are used to tourists wandering the shops, temples, and restaurants. Indian restaurants serve cheap vegetarian food, and eating alone is normal whether at a banana leaf place or grabbing samosas from a vendor. English is common since tourists come through and many Indian Malaysians speak it along with Tamil and Malay. After dark shops close around 9pm and the streets empty - not dangerous, just dead. KL Sentral makes it convenient for day trips and transport, though you'll go elsewhere for nightlife. This is a cultural stop and budget accommodation option, not an evening destination.
