The Centro is somewhere to visit in the daytime, not a place to stay. Come for the Cathedral, Hospicio Cabañas, and Teatro Degollado, have a birria lunch, and browse Mercado Libertad with your bag held tight. Then take a DiDi back to where you're staying. The sights are worth the trip, but it gets uncomfortable after dark.
The main monuments are in the Centro Histórico: the baroque Catedral de Guadalajara (completed 1618), the UNESCO World Heritage Hospicio Cabañas with José Clemente Orozco's 40-fresco cycle, the neo-classical Teatro Degollado, and a run of connected plazas ending at Plaza Tapatía. It works well for sightseeing in the daytime, with wide sidewalks, steady foot traffic around the main plaza circuit, and a busy scene near Mercado Libertad (San Juan de Dios). After dark the area empties of families and tourists and feels quite different. The simple approach is to see the sights during the day and take a DiDi back to Americana in the evening. The LGBTQ+ district, concentrated on Calle Prisciliano Sánchez, is also in the Centro and is active day and night.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Zona Minerva and Lafayette are an extension of Colonia Americana, with landmarks, a lot of good restaurants, and the city's busiest nightlife strip. They work well for daytime exploring and evening dining. Watch your phone on the busy bar strip at night, and take a DiDi home.
Colonia Americana is the best base in Guadalajara for most travelers on their own. It is the most walkable and social part of the city, with the most cafés, plenty of bars, and the US Consulate nearby. The street life runs from day into night and feels safe. Take a DiDi home after midnight rather than walking, and keep your phone in your pocket on weekend evenings.
Tlaquepaque is a good day trip from Guadalajara, especially on a Sunday when mariachi fills El Parián and the galleries are busiest. Stay on or near Calle Independencia, have a long birria lunch, look around the blown-glass workshops, and take a DiDi back to your base before dark.
