Chapalita is the quieter, expat-heavy alternative to Colonia Americana. It suits travelers who want a walkable residential base with good cafés and restaurants and don't need late-night bars. It is a 10-minute Uber from Americana when you want more going on.
Chapalita is an established, tree-lined residential colonia on the western edge of the city, and a calmer base than Colonia Americana. It straddles the Guadalajara-Zapopan municipal boundary and has the highest concentration of American and Canadian expats in the city, so it feels orderly and international without being set up for tourists. Wide sidewalks, plenty of trees, and the Glorieta Chapalita fountain and park make it walkable. Over the past decade, specialty coffee shops, restaurants, and boutique hotels have opened. The residents' association works with the police, and patrols are regular and visible. There is far less nightlife than in Colonia Americana, but long lunches, café terraces, and Sunday walks around the Glorieta are the main draw.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
Zapopan Centro is a historic baroque neighborhood with ordinary local life, a growing bar and café scene, and good art at MACZUL, all reachable for 10 pesos on Line 3. Come for the afternoon, stay for the evening at Salón Candela, and take an Uber home.
Colonia Americana is the best base in Guadalajara for most travelers on their own. It is the most walkable and social part of the city, with the most cafés, plenty of bars, and the US Consulate nearby. The street life runs from day into night and feels safe. Take a DiDi home after midnight rather than walking, and keep your phone in your pocket on weekend evenings.
Tlaquepaque is a good day trip from Guadalajara, especially on a Sunday when mariachi fills El Parián and the galleries are busiest. Stay on or near Calle Independencia, have a long birria lunch, look around the blown-glass workshops, and take a DiDi back to your base before dark.
