Tlaquepaque is a good day trip from Guadalajara, especially on a Sunday when mariachi fills El Parián and the galleries are busiest. Stay on or near Calle Independencia, have a long birria lunch, look around the blown-glass workshops, and take a DiDi back to your base before dark.
San Pedro Tlaquepaque, usually just Tlaquepaque, is the city's craft district. It is a municipality 7km southeast of the center that the urban area has grown around. The pedestrian street Calle Independencia is lined with galleries selling hand-blown glass, Talavera ceramics, textiles, and contemporary Mexican art. Sunday is the best day to go. Families fill the El Parián arcades, mariachi plays from late morning through the afternoon, and restaurants serve birria with cold beer and mezcal. It makes an easy day trip on your own. Away from the central pedestrian zone the streets get very quiet, so use Uber or DiDi after dark.

Chapalita is the quieter, expat-heavy alternative to Colonia Americana. It suits travelers who want a walkable residential base with good cafés and restaurants and don't need late-night bars. It is a 10-minute Uber from Americana when you want more going on.
Zona Minerva and Lafayette are an extension of Colonia Americana, with landmarks, a lot of good restaurants, and the city's busiest nightlife strip. They work well for daytime exploring and evening dining. Watch your phone on the busy bar strip at night, and take a DiDi home.
Zapopan Centro is a historic baroque neighborhood with ordinary local life, a growing bar and café scene, and good art at MACZUL, all reachable for 10 pesos on Line 3. Come for the afternoon, stay for the evening at Salón Candela, and take an Uber home.
