Versalles is a quiet residential area with good cafes and restaurants and fewer tourists. It works best for daytime visits and early dinners, with a ride home at night.
Versalles is a mostly residential neighborhood a short ride north of Centro, known for its food. Calle Francia and the streets around it have specialty coffee shops, bakeries, bistros, cocktail bars and casual taco spots, used by locals, remote workers and long-stay visitors. It is calmer and cheaper than the Zona Romántica, with fewer tourist hawkers. Daytime is fine for walking and working from cafes. The residential streets are quiet at night and not always well-lit, so take a ride-hailing car or taxi home after dinner rather than walking far. Some staff in the busier cafes speak English, but Spanish is more useful here than in the Old Town.

5 de Diciembre is a quiet, cheaper residential area close to Centro. It is easygoing by day and empty at night, so plan on a car for evening trips.
The Zona Romántica is the most convenient and social area for a woman on her own, with walkable streets, plenty of food options and a busy evening scene. Expect street selling and nightlife noise, and be careful with drinks and with late-night routes uphill.
Centro and the Malecón have the old town streets, the seafront walk and busy evenings. The main streets are safe and crowded, the uphill streets are quiet after dark, and street sellers are constant.
