Marrakech, Morocco
Modern European-style district with trendy restaurants, bars, and boutiques. Much safer and more relaxed than the medina, though less authentically Moroccan. You'll need taxis to reach the old city.
The modern new town - wide boulevards, French cafes, restaurants serving wine. Feels like stepping into a European city. The contrast with the medina is dramatic. You'll see Moroccan women in jeans, couples holding hands, bars full of people having cocktails. Way less harassment and staring than the medina. Avenue Mohammed V runs through here with international brands, local designers, and Cafe du Livre where expats hang out over avocado toast and matcha lattes. English is commonly spoken since this area caters to wealthy Moroccans and international visitors. The nightlife scene is here - bars and clubs stay open late, though it gets rowdy after midnight when fights sometimes break out near nightclubs. During the day and early evening it's the safest area for walking around, eating alone, meeting other travelers. Downside: you're 25-30 minutes walk from the medina, so you'll need taxis between areas.
