Tangier, Morocco
What 90% of solo women don't know about staying safe in Tangier.
Residential area with artistic community, Café Hafa, and Mediterranean views. Quiet and safe but you'll need taxis to get to restaurants and nightlife in the center.
Marshan is on a plateau about 10 minutes from the city center with sea views across to Spain. It's split between expensive modern apartments on one side and bohemian artistic areas on the other. Café Hafa has been on the cliffs since 1921 - artists, writers, and locals have been coming here for decades to drink mint tea and watch the sunset. On clear days you can see the Spanish coast pretty clearly. It's residential and quiet compared to the medina, with families walking dogs and people chatting outside corner shops. Some parts keep the bohemian vibe with small galleries and creative spaces, other parts have gated houses and luxury cars. Around Marshan Park there are cafes serving traditional tea, coffee, and juice outside. The Phoenician Tombs are here if you're into ancient history. It's safe to walk around anytime - families and couples walk in the evenings. The downside is you're away from restaurants and nightlife, so you'll need taxis to get to Ville Nouvelle or the Corniche.

Areas with comparable safety profiles for solo female travelers
The modern European part of town with cafes, international restaurants, and good lighting. Safer and more convenient than the medina but less authentic.
Beachfront promenade with marina, restaurants, and nightlife. Well-lit and safe for evening walks with police around, but tourist prices are high and pickpocketing happens.
The upscale part of the old city with better restaurants, Gibraltar views, and fixed-up riads. Feels safer and more polished than the medina below, though you should still skip the exterior walls after dark.
