Details

Costa do Sol is the beach area about 5km north of downtown along Avenida Marginal. People come for seafood and weekend lunches by the ocean. Restaurante Costa do Sol has been here since 1938, serving prawns on its sea-facing porch with live music on weekends. Other places like Pastello have ocean views. It gets busy during the day, especially weekends when families come for lunch. Beaches aren't policed and empty areas are dangerous. Go during busy lunch hours when the restaurants are full, stay near the main restaurant area instead of wandering down empty beach, and take a taxi or Uber rather than walking. Leave before sunset - the beach isn't safe at night.
